Just had to comment on this. It sounds like this boy remembers all the comments made about him and was still upset. Thankfully, with the outrageous ending (being Voted Out of the Classroom) the teacher was herself "outed." What many people don't realise is that there are formators with their own pathologies everywhere -- whose toxins are less visible, beneath the surface, poisoning children before the children can even begin to understand.
Most of us know of situations where personalities clash, a teacher seems to dislike a student (though s/he tries to mask it) and then there are the relatives. This is not about self-esteem as the modern world touts it, but about our self worth -- being in the image and likeness of God. This excerpt from a book by Henri de Lubac (concerning humanism) is short and yet packs a punch. How many are walking wounded from childhood encounters with the "Miss Portillo's" of the world.
It was true, as the interviewer said (don't know his name): Alex looked safe in his mother's arms. Would that all knew of the ultimate sanctuary offered by Holy Mother Church -- as a haven from the slings and arrows of this passing world. Pray for peace; pray for healing.
