After being run over by her father on October 20th in Arizona, Noor Almaleki died today as a result of her injuries.
"Speaking before a Maricopa County judge over the weekend, state prosecutor Stephanie Low said Almaleki has admitted purposefully running down his daughter." -- " 'By his own admission, this was an intentional act and the reason was that his daughter had brought shame on him and his family,' Low said. 'This was an attempt at an honor killing.' "
It's interesting. In Christianity, if you think that your child has strayed from the path to God (or, you fear, fallen from a "state of grace") the worst case scenario is that s/he would die before regaining a foothold. To Muslims, though, it would seem that family honour in such situations takes no account of the immortal soul of the victim. The world's opinion (i.e. human respect) appears to take precedence over eternity, which is odd for a religion.
Poor dear; may she rest in peace.
