Kudos to the Strong Woman (Mulier Fortis) who has made this metamorphosis of an ordinary altar visible cleverly to all of us. Why does this concern the Feminine Genius? We're back to "woman as icon of the Church" (yes, inevitably I'm a one-trick pony, I know!) There is a parallel here. Imagine, if you will as you watch this, the difference between a woman in a strappy t-top, skimpy bottom, and bare legs -- as opposed to folds of fabric, jewelry, and a careful presentation of face and hair. It needn't be expensive (as noted in the clip by the faux front and the clever use of shelves) but there is a decorum that can be gained even on the cheap that will provide a transformation of its own. Notice, also, the reverence of the priests and ministers towards the finished product. The altar bears a dignity that cannot be ignored.
I really enjoyed this post too. It gives me hope that the everyday ugliness of most modern American Catholic churches will someday be transformed.

Not only that, but I have confidence that even the beautiful churches that are not now aligned with Rome may have a [ahem] change of heart. That we all may be one!
